Lost Childhood

A speculative design project based on the emerging narrative that results from the abstraction of the characteristics of a waistbelt. Symbols were made for the words describing a belt, such as fit, bendy, shapeless, loose, and long. These symbols were further abstracted, and a narrative was derived in the form of a moving image poster.

Speculative Device

A speculative device designed to show the user the exact moment in their life that they lost all their child-like innocence and were forced to grow up.

What makes us adults? What if the spaces we inhabit retain the memory of the trauma of growing up? What if we could use existing predictive technology and surveillance to forecast the exact moment when a child lost their innocence. Through the device, the user can see the exact moments when their lives changed. Tansitions take place at four different locations:
Home is a site for family to come together. It is our first encounter with security, love, and comfort.

Park is a site where we connect with someone other than our family, i.e., our peers, for the very first time. We seek acceptance and discover ourselves.

School is a site that represents societal expectations and rules. It is a space where we learn to conform and fit in.

Graveyard is a site where we first encounter death and are helpless in the face of it.

Virtual Reality

The user's experience on a specific site is documented through an animated typeface representation of personal thoughts. As the user walks closer to the text, the type reacts and distorts, almost like it does not want to be read. Through the cardboard VR headset, the user can experience AR without visiting their respective sites, which are optimized as 3D videos and made accessible. The experience includes 3D immersion and sounds.
